Investing in Students, Shaping the Future: Highlights from the 2025 ER Jackman Fellows Luncheon & Annual Meeting

Thank you to those who joined us for the 2025 ER Jackman Friends & Alumni Fellows Luncheon and Annual Meeting on Friday, October 10th at the OSU Foundation.

F

riends, alumni, and supporters of ER Jackman Friends & Alumni and the college gathered for lunch Dean Simonich before the annual meeting and business discussion in the OSU Foundation Board Room.

Dean Simonich presented updates on the College, highlighting record enrollment of 3,400 students, a new strategic plan aligned with OSU’s “Prosperity Widely Shared,” and how the college plans to meet the challenges related to research funding due to USDA NIFA delays. Dr. Jia Hu, the new Associate Dean of Academics, joined and emphasized efforts in the Academic Programs Office to improve student retention and outlined new initiatives to support students in academics and finances.

Student recipients of ER Jackman funding joined us to present how raised funds supported club and internship work. Undergraduate Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences club students presented on the club’s history and current activities, while another student in FWCS presented her internship research on intertidal kelp in Oregon, a study made possible by ERJFA funding and support.

Dr. Taylor Foerster presented her research in partnership with FWCS and the Agricultural & Natural Resources Communications department related to the conflict between wolves and livestock, specifically pertaining to Eastern Oregon and building shared priorities between entities like ODFW, ranchers, and researchers.
Finally, the board thanked Dr. Dale Weber for his dedication to the ER Jackman group over the years, and officially unveiled the new internship program name, the Dr. Dale W. Weber Internship Support Program, in recognition of his work.

2025 in review:

$20,000 of research funding for 29 students with 26 faculty across 10 departments in Summer/Fall 2024 and Winter/Spring 2025.
$29,000 in E.R.JFA general scholarships were awarded to 15 students across 8 majors for 2024-2025.
$45,000 of student club funding for 19 clubs for the 2024-2025 fiscal year

ER Jackman Fellows are distinguished donors who give donation of $3,000 or $ 1000/year for three consecutive years to one or more of the ER Jackman endowment funds including Scholarship, Enhancement, or Unrestricted.
